DataDyne Video Interview: Stressing Affordable Technology

Joel Selanikio ON 15 October 2012

I was pleased to attend the recent USAID-funded Global Youth Economic Conference here in Washington, DC. After my session, I got to speak with the people at Microlinks (which “aims to extend and multiply the impact of the learning and innovation developed through microenterprise research and practice”) about the impact of the mobile phone and the importance of truly affordable technology.

As I discuss in the video interview, if you have development technology that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, or even millions, that severely limits the number of “experiments” that development practitioners can do with that technology over time — compared with something like Facebook or Twitter or our own EpiSurveyor (soon to be Magpi) that is free.
