EpiSurveyor Embraced at University of Nairobi,Kenya

Datadyne and University of Nairobi have started collobaration which aims at promoting mHealth activities within the University and local communities.Saturday 19th/06/2010 marks the turning point as the first batch of lecturers and friends of Naiobi University were trained on EpiSurveyor.

Hot on heels of the just concluded malezi Bora week where Supervisors from MOPHs,UNICEF,WHO and other Partners monitored the activities on real time basis.The team conducted a total of 356 Exit Interviews and visited 116 districts during in the last two weeks.

Improving the health of Mothers & New Born Babies

This is the theme of this year Malezi Bora Week in Kenya.Its a bi-annual activity where health workers intergrate all the intervention aimed at improving the lives of the mother and child.The first phase Malezi bora activity will run  from 3rd-15th ,May 2010 while the second phase will be held between 1st-12, November 2010.

CRS Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D), Nairobi 2010

Catholic Relief Services held a 2 day innovation conference in Nairobi to define an approach to improving the quality of their programming efforts through the use and extension of ICT solutions.

DataDyne was one of the organizations invited to show case our EpiSurveyor application to the participants.  Unfortunately, a Cameroonian CRS team who were to give a presentation on their use of EpiSurveyor did not make it to Nairobi due to logistical problems.I would encourage all who are using EpiSurveyor in the field to share with us your stories.

Kenya Wins GSMA Government Leadership Award for Progressive Mobile Broadband Strategy

The GSMA, which represents the interests of the worldwide mobile communications industry, today presented His Excellency Mr. Samuel Poghisio, Minister for Information and Communications for Kenya, with the mobile industry’s prestigious annual Government Leadership Award. The Award recognises the leadership role played by Kenya in extending the benefits of mobile technology to more consumers by cutting tax on mobile phones and information communication technology (ICT) equipment and promoting the early roll-out of mobile broadband.

Nairobi Provincial Health Management Team, Receives Phones from APHIA II

To day Geroge and i, went for a DEMO at the the APHIA II offices located at the International House.As part of strenghthening  information system within the province,Pathfinders through the APHIA II project has purchased 8 phones( Nokia 6300 )  to be used by the district  Health Information teams with the aim of improving data, collection,quality ,analysis and enhanced feedback.

Final Push in Stopping Transmission of Wild Polio Virus in Kenya

Today marks day one of the Sub National Immunization day in Turkana district.During the day all the three Turkana district did their launch which was graced by high level diginitaries among them the District commisioner of Turkana Central, Dr. Ben Nkowane from WHO Geneva, Dr. Shem Kiptoon ,WHO KCO and Johnny Musyoka , National Disease surveillance coordinator.

End of SIAD round 2 polio campaign in Kenya

Congratulations to the teams on the ground for good job done in combating the spread of Polio. Despite the short interval additional doses (SIAD) strategy done in Kenya for the first time. Special thanks to WHO, CDC, Datadyne, and District Medical officers of health in districs bordering the larger Turkana and above all our vollunteers and vaccinators for braving the scorching sun and ensuring that the districts met their campaign objectives.

How EpiSurveyor Web version is helping us Monitoring the Polio campaign in Kenya

We needed to be on top of everything during the campaign. No one wants to know the short comings way past the campaign has ended as the data/information will be of no value. As public health team monitoring the campaign we need real time data as we all know that in order to have a quality campaign one need accurate and fast flow of information in order to act on the strenth and weakness noted on the ground.
