EpiSurveyor Field Report: Kenya Polio Campaign

EpiSurveyor Field Report: Kenya Polio Campaign

I arrived in Nairobi late last night and took the first bus to Nakura to see the teams from Ministry of Health working on the mass polio campaign. As the campaign winds down, most children have been vaccinated, but teams from the Ministry have been pounding the pavement (well, the dirt roads) going house to house to verify that a high percentage of kids actually did get vaccinated.

The data collection teams are all using either EpiSurveyor on PDAs and Treo cellphones, except for a select group who are helping to field test the soon-to-be-released J2ME cellphone version of EpiSurveyor. That group is giving us terrific feedback about changes they'd like to see, any problems they had, etc.

In the photo, you can see Yusuf Ibrahim administering the vaccination coverage survey to a mom in a small community not far from Nakuru.
