WHO/AFRO EpiSurveyor Rollout

WHO/AFRO EpiSurveyor Rollout

January 18, 2008

Since 2006, regional/provincial health officers in every country of sub-Saharan Africa continue to be trained in the use of EpiSurveyor mobile electronic data collection software. The officers are using EpiSurveyor for the collection of information regarding clinic supervision, as well as any other data need that arises: vaccination coverage, outbreak response, etc.

Countries already trained and using EpiSurveyor include Kenya, Zambia, Ghana, Uganda, Cameroon, Senegal, and Sierra Leone.

EpiSurveyor is a free, open-source, standards-based software package for the collection and analysis of any type of information on mobile devices.

By providing this free software, real capacity for information collection and analysis is transferred to the participating countries, dramatically reducing their need for consultants and dramatically increasing their ability to identify and manage important public health issues including HIV/AIDS, malaria, measles, and others.
