Knight News Challenge accepting proposals!
It's time for another round of the annual Knight News Challenge, a competition for the best ideas regarding news, journalism, and the digital distribution of information. We know the great people at the Knight Foundation well, having received a previous Knight grant for our Mobile Information Project (MIP) which is currently in operation in Chile. In addition to the funding, the News Challenge has played a great role in connecting us with other innovators and potential funders.
At the Knight News Challenge
I'm at the Knight News Challenge today on the campus of MIT. It's a conference and awards event for the winners of the Knight News Challenge Grant. DataDyne is a part of this, because we won last year for the DatAgro project in Chile, powered by our MIP technology. But I just want to put in a general plug for the Knight Foundation, and the News Challenge.
DatAgro Project featured on MobileActive.org
"At a small agrarian cooperative in Chile, farmers with little access
to the internet have a new source of farming information: text
messaging.
The messages, a combination of national and international news and
farming information about topics like weather and pricing, are part of
a project called DatAgro, which aims to bring relevant farming information to rural populations that have little access to computers."
Exciting News from the NetSquared Conference
The DatAgro Project was honored at the NetSquared conference as the winner of the Yahoo! Green Award and as one of the five laureates of the FACT Social Justice Award. Here are the announcements from Yahoo! and the French American Charitable Trust (FACT):
